A Case Study of Theraplay for a Preschool-Age Adopted Girl with Sleep Terror Disorder

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to examine the changes which occurred through Theraplay for a preschool-age adopted girl who suffers from sleep terror disorder. Theraplay was conducted over a total of 24 sessions, once a week. The adopted child was a 3-year-old girl and her adoptive mother was 50 years old. After conducting the program of Theraplay, the data were collected using Attachment Q-set, K-CBCL, 1.5-5 and MIM. The results of this study were as follows. First, the Sleep terror Disorder disappeared. Second, the subject¡¯s attachment score was increased. Third, the levels of maladaptive behavior scale, internalizing scale and externalizing scale were observed to have decreased from the clinical level seen in the pre-test to the normal levels seen in the post-test. The emotional and behavior problems such as depression, withdrawal, anxiety and aggression were also decreased. Forth, positive emotional expressions such as smiles and praise between adoptive parent and her child were observed to have increased.
